John 2_6–8

Dear CrossPointe,

I’m thoroughly enjoying our study of John and hope you are as well! This Sunday we’ll dive into John 2:1–12 and the well-known story of Jesus turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. This is Jesus’ first miracle as recorded by John, and it’s notable for how much John doesn’t say about it. In fact, the actual miracle is just implied, not explicitly stated. And then there is this really interesting exchange between Jesus and his mother, Mary, which on the surface sounds almost harsh to our modern ears. What are we to make of this interaction? Why is this seemingly insignificant miracle the first in John’s record of Jesus’ ministry? It has to be about more than just saving the bridegroom from the embarrassment of running out of wine, right?! Well, let’s roll up our sleeves and dig into this story and wrestle with these questions together.

I hope to see you Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Brad
