Dear CrossPointe,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Indeed we have much to be thankful for as a church. Despite all the challenges of this year, he continues to sustain us. Praise the Lord.
Our text this Sunday, 2 Peter 3:10–13, brings us to the beginning of Peter’s final exhortation to his readers. The point of the text is clear—live your lives in light Christ’s return and God’s promise of eternity with him in a new heavens and new earth.
This promise is precisely what the false teachers within the church and scoffers of Peter’s day were denying, causing great harm and trouble. Our challenge today may not be teachers who deny the Second Coming, but certainly part of it is a culture that seduces us into thinking that life “here and now” is most important—to look down into ourselves rather than up to the Lord and into eternity.
So let’s come ready to think about eternal things this Lord’s Day. We need it, beloved! Looking forward to seeing you!
Grace and peace,
Brad
