John 812–30
Dear CrossPointe,
Our text this week is John 8:12–30, which begins with some of the most well-known words of Christ: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” It’s such an incredible statement with far-reaching implications worth parsing out this Sunday, but we, like John, can’t stop there! The balance of this passage, in fact, is focused on the Pharisees’ ensuing objection and Jesus’ testimony to them. It’s a telling exchange that reveals to us the nature of Jesus’ authority and just what it means for him to truly be “the light of the world.” Come hungry for God’s Word!
I hope you’ll also come eager to gather around the Lord’s Table as we celebrate his Supper. It is a sign of the Lord’s love for his people when we partake of the bread and the cup and together proclaim the death and resurrection of Christ. Likewise, as God’s people covenanted together in this local church, what a privilege to participate together, seeing each other’s faces and being reminded of the Lord’s providence in each other’s lives. Don’t overlook this means of grace!
Hope to see you this Sunday!
Robert
