Dear CrossPointe,

Hope you’re all having a great week! This Sunday we’ll be in Mark 14:1-11 which recounts the poignant scene of a woman anointing Jesus with a very expensive flask of ointment. Her actions are roundly criticized by the disciples, but Jesus quickly corrects them and calls what she did a “beautiful thing.” In a moment of intentional contrast, Mark then notes the beginning of Judas’ betrayal of Jesus.

There is so much for us to unpack in this brief text! As you read through this passage to prepare for Sunday, I'd also encourage you to read John's account of this scene in John 12:1-8. He fills in the story with a few more details that will help us understand all that is going on at this most unusual dinner banquet.

See you Sunday! Grace and peace,

Brad
